From Research to Innovation: Our Story
DC Opportunities was founded by Dr. Laurens Mackay, inspired by his research into DC distribution grids at ETH Zurich and TU Delft. His work showed that low-voltage DC systems could play a key role in creating more efficient, flexible, and sustainable energy networks, bringing innovation from the lab to real-world applications.
With this vision, Laurens formed a team of engineers in Delft who shared a common purpose: to grow, innovate, and develop real, working solutions for the energy systems of tomorrow. Today, our focus remains the same – bridging the gap between academic insights and practical engineering, to support the energy transition where it’s most needed.
Who we are
At our core, we are a small and committed team that enjoys working closely with technology, and even closer with each other. We believe that meaningful solutions come from staying practical, asking questions, and keeping the loop between idea and implementation short.
We come from different backgrounds – from academia to fieldwork – but what brings us together is a shared mindset: curious, constructive, proactive, and always ready to prototype, test, and improve. We aim to deliver results clearly, collaboratively, and with purpose.
What we do
At DC Opportunities, we specialize in the development and implementation of advanced DC microgrids and distribution grids. Our expertise lies in:
- DC Microgrid Design & Implementation: We design and deploy low-voltage DC systems tailored for applications such as public lighting, electric vehicle charging, and renewable energy integration.
- Electronic Product Development: We design and refine custom DC-powered electronics, ensuring seamless integration into existing DC systems.
- Research & Development: Collaborating with academic institutions, we innovate and test new DC technologies, bridging the gap between research and real-world applications.
Our solutions are tailored to meet the highest standards of innovation, ensuring reliable energy distribution and smarter infrastructure management. By integrating solar and other renewable sources into our systems, we help drive sustainable development in the energy sector.
