350/700V DC Public Lighting Grid Delft

In collaboration with the Municipality of Delft, DC Opportunities is playing a key role in transforming the city’s public lighting grid from alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC). This innovative shift is part of Delft’s commitment to enhancing sustainability and energy efficiency in public infrastructure.

DC Protection Cabinet Solution

To facilitate this transition, DC Opportunities has provided a state-of-the-art DC protection cabinet, designed to interface with the bipolar DC grid and connect it to the neighborhood lighting rings. This advanced system includes cutting-edge solid-state protection technology with the following key features:

  • Fault clearance time of under 1µs for enhanced safety
  • Residual Current Device (RCD) protection
  • Solid-state protection for a bipolar DC grid operating at +/- 350V
  • Remote control capabilities for efficient management
  • Data monitoring and control over an astronomical clock

One major advantage of this DC setup is the ability to monitor the health of the cables in real-time, allowing for proactive maintenance planning. This not only increases system reliability but also reduces downtime and long-term operational costs. Through this project, Delft is setting a new standard in public lighting, leveraging modern DC technology to create a more sustainable and efficient urban environment.
