Foundation ZERO

Foundation ZERO was created with the belief that the way we harness energy can be transformed. By leveraging cutting-edge technology, the project aims to revolutionize renewable energy use. The goal is ambitious: to build a 75-meter sailing yacht powered entirely by renewable sources such as wind and solar.

DC Opportunities is proud to contribute to this visionary project by developing advanced technology to make this goal a reality. To maximize the energy harvested from the yacht’s solar panels, even in shaded conditions, DC Opportunities has created a micro MPPT converter stage. This innovation isolates shaded cell strings, enabling the rest of the panel to operate at peak efficiency.

Additionally, we have developed high-efficiency LED strips designed for the yacht’s 350V DC grid, with integrated drivers on the strips themselves to ensure optimal lighting performance.

Through these innovations, Foundation ZERO is leading the way in sustainable yachting, proving that a future powered entirely by renewable energy is within reach.

P4ELECS: Platform for Electrification Skills and Competences

P4ELECS is a European Union initiative focused on developing the essential skills and expertise needed to drive the energy transition. The project brings together vocational, education and training (VET) institutions, higher education, industry leaders, and public authorities from Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Latvia, and Germany. By fostering international collaboration, P4ELECS aims to bridge the gap between research and practical implementation in the electrification sector.

The initiative will deliver a comprehensive training curriculum, promoting vocational excellence and innovation, all in alignment with the highest European standards. As part of this effort, DC Opportunities is contributing by developing key components related to DC public lighting and electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.

FLEXDC – Flexible Meshed DC Grid

The objective of this project is to develop the necessary network technology for the efficient operation of bipolar meshed DC distribution grids with bidirectional power flow and flexible demand. This enables a more cost-efficient way of distributing electric energy. This project aims at developing the missing network components.

FLEXINET

DC Opportunities will develop a power electronics converter for energy storage applications in particular for the connection with DC grids or other DC loads or sources. It can also be used for second life batteries. A prototype of a partial power converter will be designed and field tested in the Green Village.
